The Postcard Project

The Postcard Project

Recorded 2015-2016 at Blind Carbon Studio
Bellmawr, NJ
Produced & Engineered by: Adams Eberwein

The Postcard Project represented our belated jump into the 21st Century world of music production. We noticed that some artists were still clinging to the antiquated system of publishing "albums" every couple of years while others (like Muse with their "Drones" project and Foo Fighters with "Sonic Highways") were pioneering new methods of connecting with audiences.

Our idea was to write, record, and release a song each month for a year -- to send our listeners a "postcard" from where we were right there and then. It was a challenging schedule for us, given that we were all dealing with full-time jobs, families, new relationships, childbirth, the loss of loved ones, relocating, new jobs... While it was difficult to meet the deadlines, it was rewarding to reach the end of the month and realize that we had finished a brand new song that we started only weeks before. We hope you enjoy what we came up with.

Another Day

You had to change yourself
you had some growing to do
you had to say I have pushed on this
but you're refusing to move

what if the world is bigger than it seems
what if you stay right here
what if I land myself a couple of dreams
maybe things will be clearer

another day
could you let me win
someday
could you just give in
to yourself you must be true
that was something you could never do
so I keep coming back to you
another day

you do your thing discover yourself
you watch me sit right down
you let me know when you get over yourself
when you get back into town

we'll have a beer and we'll just reminisce
we'll both have our laughs
we'll joke that you must really miss this
was it really that bad

another day
could you let me win
someday
could you just give in
to yourself you must be true
that was something you could never do
so I keep crawling back to you
another day

I couldn't think of a thing to say
but I couldn't let another night become another day

another day
could you let me win
someday
could you just give in
that was something
you could never ever do

Sugar Mama

Thought I'd seen the end of my shame
but that movie had a few more frames
and a twist right before the surprise ending

Thought that I could never be beat
'til I was living just shy of the street
then all of the sudden my will starts bending

When you've crashed on the couch of every friend you know
you find self-respect comes a little more slow

Bought and paid for
I can't afford
a single bit of shame
I would even sell my name
My love ain't cheap
But I can earn my keep
If you know what I mean
sugar mama come
and make it all better

Swore I'd never live on my knees
always said that I would rather die free
but that was all before I found my golden prison

Things that you can never take back
I've built a pretty sizable stack
in the name of trying to earn a single day's livin'

Someone said don't ever put a price on shame
but you miss a couple meals you might not feel the same

We'll live out your days
In a far away city
People will say
What a charming and witty
Boy you have
And we'll share a knowing laugh
Would that be so bad
Would that be so bad

Bad Luck

I once went to see a canyon out west
stood on the edge of the sky
It dawned on me, I won't go nowhere again
if it meant we'd be saying goodbye

We're not always easy
But I know it's right
'Cus I always laugh more than I cry
Just keep on loving me
I'll keep loving you

Bad luck can't find me
As long as you're mine

I hear that God plays in the lights of the north
a love song he sings to mankind
I put all I got in this song here for you
Let me hang all the stars in your night

Say you'll forgive me
For coming up short
See God had a little more time
Just keep on loving me
I'll keep loving you

Bad luck can't find me
Long as you're mine

Road to Nowhere

Would you look for me till the sun went down
Would you call your friends all over town
Would you ask hey you seen him around
Cus you miss me like I miss you now

Or he's on a long road to nowhere
And he don't care where he's going to
He's on a long road to nowhere
If he gets there
Will he even know

Maybe he just needs time to think
Maybe he had too much to drink
Maybe drowned himself in a bathroom sink
Cus I drove him up to and off the brink

Or we're on a long road to nowhere
And we don't care where we're going to
we're on a long road to nowhere
when we get there
will we even know

I don't wanna leave you in the lurch
But it hurt and it's only getting worse
I find that hard to believe
Cus I saw this coming

Don't look for that which can't be found
Don't rescue those who wish to drown
Don't lose yourself in a wedding gown
Don't quit the fight 'cus you lost a round

Cross That Line

I'm done with trying
To get you off my mind
I'm done with hide and seek
You knew you had me
Since I was seventeen
Can't waste no more of my time

Well there's a line between
Friend and lover
And you know exactly where I stand

I'm gonna cross that line
Every time
I'm gonna cross that line
Every time
How am I gonna make you see
That you're the only one for me
You could be mine

You look away
Maybe someday
Guess you can't blame me for trying
No more lines
No more nice guy
I can't waste another day

Well there's a line between
Friend and lover
And you know exactly where I stand

I'm gonna cross that line
Every time
I'm gonna cross that line
Every time
How am I gonna make you see
That you're the only one for me
You could be mine

What are you holding out for
It's time to make up your mind
Even if you won't say that you're mine

Every time
I'm gonna cross that line
Every time
How am I gonna make you see
That you're the only one for me
You could be mine

Graveyard

Seven long years, here I stayed
Faith in my future, plans were laid
But as we all know, God has a good laugh
When we think that we know what’s at the end of our path

So many lessons under this belt
So many lies we tell ourselves
I leave all my loves here but I’ve got to go
And learn all the things I thought I’d already known

This town is a graveyard of dreams and delight
The dreamers who stay here soon lose their fight
If ever you come here, you won’t find me
I’m leaving today on my rambling wings

I have more than paid my dues
Don’t like what you see, better change your view
Change isn’t easy but, you know, I find
If you stay in one place you’re bound to lose your mind

This town is a graveyard of dreams and delight
The dreamers who stay here soon lose their fight
If ever you come here, you won’t find me
I’m leaving today on my rambling wings

I leave all my loves here but I’ve got to go
But don’t think for a moment you haven’t touched my soul

This town is a graveyard of dreams and delight
The dreamers who stay here soon lose their fight
If ever you come here, you won’t find me
I’m leaving today on my rambling wings

Shoot 'em Running

Swinging round a wrecking ball chain
Looking for a scenery change
If anyone gets in your way well then
They've only got themselves to blame

Shoot 'em running
Keep 'em coming
Shoot 'em running

Put away the honey jar
Vinegar shoots twice as far
Drinking at a poison well long enough
Water makes you who you are

Make em wonder why they ever loved you back
The best defense is a merciless attack
You can't show feelings
You gotta hide your meanings

Runaway Hill (The Trucker Song)

Time and time again
I took some hard right turns
With too much weight behind me
Guess I'll never learn

On a runaway hill
And I lose my brakes
I had things that I was driving toward
But now I guess they'll have to wait

Headlights out and
Brakes on fire
Think I lost my cool
When I lost my tires
I had a deal with God
I think it just expired
Nothing left for me to do
But appreciate the view
Put my final thoughts on you
say hey -- hey I took my turn

If it's my -- my time to go
I'll take that deal
But I don't want to be a reaper
Behind a steering wheel

Pull me out from the wreckage
Hear my dying cry
Never added up to nothing
But that's my fault for never trying

In the flicker of
The burning steel
Your life a film replayed
Would you play the role
Of a different man
Or would it all play out the same

Burn After Reading

I told you a dozen times
It was perfectly clear in my mind
but you had
all these questions
wrong impressions

it's like
I wrote everything down
and I said

burn this after you are done reading
redefine all my meanings
in your mind
make our story one that's worth reading
wherever it had been leading
turn it around

did i just waste my breath
am i sending my words to their death
have they ever
made one difference
can you give me an instance

it's like
I wrote everything down
and I said

burn this after you are done reading
redefine all my meanings
in your mind
make our story one that's worth reading
wherever it had been leading
turn it around

and speak to no one else
keep talking to yourself
listing all of the reasons
why I should go to hell
I'd like to add a few myself
yeah i'll add a few myself

Beneath the Sky

Going gray around the edges
Ever since last fall
Days blend in to one another
Keep dreaming that you called

Think I'm feeling the beginning
Of the ending of my time
Feel like the ground is shaking
Sitting on a fault line

I can't change my world from here
Another night brings another fear
Nothing changes from year to year
Here... Beneath the sky

Since you've been gone how I've been living
Ain't living much at all
We made ourselves of brick and mortar
Got stuck behind these walls

I can't change my world from here
Another night brings another fear
Nothing changes from year to year
Here... Beneath the sky

If I can change my world from here
Instead of dwelling on all my fears
I could carve out a new frontier
There... Beneath the sky

Skywriting

Barrel roll and a
hard break to the right
Followed by a Steep dive
Falling through the pavement
Falling through the

Skywriting on the wall
And you crash just when you should crawl

C'mon up here baby
'cus I don't wanna fly alone

Winds have changed
Stalling out
Feeling the drag
Falling through the starlight
Falling through the

Skywriting on the wall
And you crash just when you should crawl

C'mon up here baby
'cus I don't wanna fly alone

Crashing and burning
You're feeling great
Flying and falling
Are kinda the same

C'mon up here baby
'cus I don't wanna fly alone

All She Wrote

I gotta take my turn
I gotta blow every dime I've ever earned

These are just a couple of things
You could have said
Before you did what you did
Instead you did what you did

3 words on a post-it note
3 words, I gotta go
I kinda think there was more to say, but
That's all she wrote

Ran out of things to say
Ran out of patience so I'm running away

These are just a couple of things
I almost wrote
But I guess I wrote what I did
Try and find a way to forgive me

3 words on a post-it note
3 words, I gotta go
I kinda think there was more to say, but
That's all she wrote

2 roads diverged in a wood
I gave up where I stood
Search all night
Or burn it down

3 words on a post-it note
3 words, I gotta go
That's all she wrote
